The massive growth of the Chinese and other Asian economies in the past decade and the increasing global demand for minerals and commodities, particularly iron ore, is a major driver of increasing expenditure on minerals exploration and record investment in mining and minerals processing projects in Australia.
Australia's iron ore industry is ideally placed to meet the surging demand by the steel industries of China, Japan and Korea for additional supplies of high-quality iron ore.
Virtually all of Australia's iron ore is mined in Western Australia (around 97 per cent), with most of this product being exported from the Pilbara region.
